Alexander E. Richard

October 5, 1990 — August 16, 2023

Alexander Emil Richard, 32, formerly of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away on August 16, 2023. He was born October 5, 1990 in Toledo, Ohio to parents David and Lisa Richard. He graduated from Perrysburg High School in 2009 and then attended the University of Toledo where he received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering degree in 2014. He resided in Vancouver, Washington.

Alex worked in the engineering field for several businesses during his lifetime including Vogt Power International in Louisville, Kentucky as an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer; Eaton Corporation in Maumee, Ohio as a Products Application Engineer; and as a Senior Application Engineer for Danfoss Corporation in Portland, Oregon. He was extremely proud of his work and the contributions that he made to all the companies he worked for during his career. Those that worked with him spoke highly of his brilliant mind and work ethic.

Alex was an avid reader of every genre, a computer geek, enjoyed video games, scary movies, hiking, biking, model building and visiting with friends. Alex spent the last year of his life traveling the country. Exploring the different things the states had to offer him. He traveled across the country making his way to many different unique spots, camping in “Rhonda the Honda,” meeting new people that he was able to share his experiences with, and enjoying the natural beauty of the planet. Alex shared photos of his travels with his friends and family, you could see the true happiness this brought him as he smiled ear to ear. He put many miles on his beloved car, and covered her in stickers as trophies of his adventures. Rhonda traveled with him to Alaska where he drove through the light for days, to the coast line where he played his instruments for the wildlife, to the mountains and the desert. The family wishes to share some of Alex’s final words. He expressed “the road trips I went on made for quite the excellent bucket list. I hope you all get to explore the world and have as much fun as I was able to.”

Alex’s life was cut too short, but we know he would have continued to excel in life with his knowledge, dedication, and passion. He blessed everyone he met with his magnificent mind and compassionate heart. And although he may have had a short stay on this earth he went back to the kingdom of God and was welcomed home with open and loving arms.

The family grieves Alex’s short life but also wishes to celebrate the amazing person he is and the happy memories he left behind. They would like his family and friends to celebrate his life in a way that reminds them of him. And to keep his memories alive by reading, exploring the world, and sharing the joy that was his life.

Alex leaves behind his parents, David and Lisa Richard of Perrysburg; sisters, Kaitlin (Matt) Oppenlander, and Jessica (Mac) Silka; grandparents Ron and Sharon Book; loving aunts, uncles and cousins. He is also survived by many close and amazing high school friends, and had a community of friends he quickly acquired in Vancouver, Washington, all who miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by grandfather, Jimmie Richard; grandmother, Mary Lou Richard; and uncle, Kurt Book.

A private service was held on September 9, 2023. A celebration of Alex’s life will take place in November, 2023 for his family and close friends. In memory of Alex, the family suggests donations to the ASPCA, an organization he passionately supported. Alex didn’t have pets of his own, but he loved his families’ pets and enjoyed the wildlife that surrounded him.

We hope everyone continues to think of Alex with happy memories and loving thoughts until you get to see him again! In Loving Memory: The ones we love never go away, they walk beside us even on this day, unseen, unheard, yet always near, still loved, still missed, and very dear.
