Alan W. Brass, 74, of Maumee, passed away on Friday, December 9, 2022. He was born in Youngstown, OH to William and Julia (Costarella) Brass on March 13, 1948. Alan was a generous man, both in his career and personal life. His work spans over forty years, mostly in large, multi-hospital health care systems. He served as Chief Executive Officer for ProMedica Health Systems in Toledo until his retirement in 2009. Prior to that, Alan oversaw multiple large scale hospital systems, mostly focused on locations with major academic centers. He also served on many boards including The Ohio State University Board (Vice Chairman) and Chairman of The Ohio State Medical Center. Other boards include Chairman of Bank Boards, National Health Care Boards, Philanthropic Boards, and many Community Boards. Alan was also an active member of his church, Maumee Methodist, serving on multiple committees and assisting with many projects. The Ohio State Buckeyes were very near and dear to Alan’s heart, as he enjoyed many games and celebrated in their victories. Alan was the type of man who made friends for life, proving that were his many cherished friends he enjoyed countless fishing, hunting, or golfing trips with over the years. He was a family man filled with integrity and a genuine heart. One of his many proud accomplishments include helping to create the Children’s Miracle Network with the Osmond Family.
Alan is survived by his wife, Dana Fike Brass; children, Glen (Michelle) Brass, Mark Brass; stepdaughter, Nikki (HT) Williams; grandchildren, Hailey, and Ashley Brass; step grandchildren, Thomas, Madison, and Aidan Williams, Lily and Jacob Reimer; siblings, Cindy (Ed) Mulgrew, Gwenda (Don) Riehl, Kim (Andy) Mahalik; many extended family members; and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and first wife, Deborah Brass.
Friends will be received on Monday, December 19, 2022, from 2-8 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, OH 43623. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Maumee United Methodist Church, 405 Sackett Street, Maumee, OH 43537. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
