Adeline Addie K. Mendel, age 80, of Whitehouse, Ohio passed away unexpectedly Friday, January 28, 2011 at St. Lukes Hospital with family and friends at her bedside. She was born January 8, 1931 in Stoystown, PA to Matthew and Catharine Borkowski Flack. Addie was a certified x-ray technician at the former Toledo State Hospital and served as chief technician at the Somerset General Hospital in Pennsylvania. She was later a manager at the former Fabric Circle in the Southland Shopping Center. An active member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Maumee, Addie was one of the founders of the Pauls Peers Respite Care. She was a talented and expert seamstress who enjoyed knitting caps and blankets for infants for the Mercy Hospital System. Addie was a kind and excellent neighbor to all. She tended and lovingly cared for her rose and vegetable garden. Addie was a passionate cook known as the cooking machine. She enjoyed traveling extensively with her husband and was fond of spending vacations at the family farm in Stoystown, Pennsylvania. A loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Addie will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Addie is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Alan Mendel who she married November 20, 1954; sons, Philip Kim Mendel, Dave Dawn Mendel and Joe Robyn Mendel; grandchildren, Megan Mendel, Amanda David Skelton, Matthew, Ryan, Marina, Steven and Andrew Mendel; sister, Margaret McKenzie and five nieces and a nephew. In addition to her parents, Addie was preceded in death by her sister, Jean Kaufman. Family and friends may visit Friday, February 4, 2011 from 2-8 pm in the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee. Visitation will continue Saturday, February 5, 2011 from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 am at St. Pauls Episcopal Church, 310 Elizabeth Street, Maumee, OH. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Maumee. The family requests memorial contributions to Pauls Peers Respite Care at St. Pauls Episcopal Church. www.walkerfuneralhomes.com
