Abigail Flahie

Abigail Mary Flahie, 73, of Monclova, OH, passed away on October 21, 2024 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born on February 20, 1951 in Chicago, IL to William L. and Elaine E. (Terrell) Wood, who preceded her in death, and raised in Westchester, IL.

Abby graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Detroit. While raising her two young children, she furthered her education by obtaining a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Toledo. Her commitment to education extended into her professional life, where she spent 30 years teaching Math at Gateway Middle School in Maumee, OH.

Abby was often found volunteering at or enjoying the Toledo Metroparks and loved to travel, especially to national parks. Together with her beloved husband, John, she visited all 50 states. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was a long-time member and dedicated volunteer at St. Joseph’s Parish in Maumee.

Abby is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, John; her children; Patrick (Jennifer Strandberg) Flahie and Meghan (Matt) Reed; grandchildren, Brian, Amelia, and Kellen Flahie and Erin and Anna Reed; siblings, Susan O’Leary and William (Linda) Wood; numerous relatives, and friends who will miss her dearly.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 28, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm in Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St, Maumee, OH 43537. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 104 W. Broadway St, Maumee, OH 43537. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Northwest Ohio and Sisters of the Visitation in Toledo, Ohio.
