A. Richard Camp

A. Richard Camp, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at age 86, from colon cancer. He graduated from Libbey High School in 1954, where he was on the football and baseball team. He then graduated from The University of Toledo in 1959, with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. His schooling was interrupted for a time when he was signed with the Pittsburg Pirates farm team in Florida. After graduation from UT, Richard worked in machinery sales and was Vice President of D and H Machinery. Later, he became president of Maumee Valley Machinery until he retired at age 61. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and a very active supporter of UT’s football team, along with the men and women’s basketball teams. Dick was a staunch Republican, he was a long-time member of Hope Lutheran Church, a member of the Sylvania Country Club, and a past member of the Toledo Rotary Club.


Arnold Richard Camp was born on September 10, 1936, in Toledo, Ohio, son of Arnold and Florence (Muir) Camp. Richard married Patsy Radunz in 1960, and together they raised their three children, Challen Powers, of Lakeland Fl, Erin Kieper, of Vashon, WA, and Chad Camp, of Toledo, OH. During their 62 years of marriage, he and Patsy traveled abroad extensively to over 18 foreign countries as well as the US.


Their children were competitive swimmers with Greater Toledo Aquatic Club, and Richard was fully involved and supportive of the organization. He was a meet director for many years and former president of GTAC. His daughter, Erin, was on the Saint Ursula High School swim team that won state in 1983 and swam for the University of Iowa. His oldest daughter, Challen, was the first freshmen from Southview High School to go to state in swimming. His son, Chad, was captain of St. Johns High School Swim team. Richard was involved with Boy Scouts with him and helped him earn his Eagle Scout badge in the 8th grade. The very hot summer camps and freezing camp Alaska were particularly memorable to him.


Richard is survived by his wife, of 62 years, and five grandsons, Kasey Powers, of Indianapolis, IN, Brady Powers, of Pascagoula, MS, Bennett Powers, of New York City, NY, Cody Camp, of Indianapolis, IN, and Tyler Camp, of Glencoe, AK. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Florence Camp, and his infant son, Eric.


Visitation for Richard will be held on Friday, October 21, 2022, from 4:00-7:00PM at Walker Funeral Home, Sylvania Avenue. A memorial service will take place at Hope Lutheran Church on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at 9:30 AM.
