A.LeRoy Higley, 91 of Port Clinton, OH, passed away, Tuesday, January 02, 2018, at Elmwood Assisted Living, Fremont, OH. LeRoy was born on April 17, 1926 in Elkhart, IN to parents Arthur Lewis and Floreida Ruth (Rice) Higley. His family moved to Danbury, OH in 1937. LeRoy served 2 years in the U.S. Army (1944-46) stationed on Canton Island in the South Pacific during WWII. He returned to graduate from DHS in 1947. LeRoy was a graduate of Bliss Business College in Columbus, OH. He was an accomplished independent construction contractor by trade. Several of his most notable projects include The Marblehead Post Office and the Marblehead Fire Station. He designed and built numerous homes in the Port Clinton and Marblehead areas. LeRoy and his first wife, Grayce, owned and operated Plymouth Shore Camp for Girls on the Marblehead Peninsula from 1965-1972. Between 1973 and 1984, LeRoy and his second wife, Joan, managed Plymouth Shore as a seasonal trailer camp and hosted local church retreats. He was a member of the Port Clinton Elks Lodge #1718, a former member of the Port Clinton Jaycees, V.F.W. Homer D. Gardner Post #248, and the American Legion Post #8555 of Marblehead. He drove the EHOVE bus route for Danbury Twp. Schools for 17 years and was also a rural mail carrier for Lakeside-Marblehead. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Danbury, OH and St. John Lutheran Church in Port Clinton, OH. He will be deeply missed never forgotten by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Those left to cherish his memory are: Special Friend: Rosemary Zelms and her family Chuck (Linda), Ron (Kie), Zach (Megan), Alison, Molly and Madison Zelms; His children: Gaile Liddle (N. Ft. Myers,FL), Judy (Jim) Brower (Oregon, OH), Joy (Doug) Ceraldi (Oak Harbor, OH), Carol (Richard) Earle (Centennial, CO), and Dana (Maria) Higley (Los Altos, CA); Sisters: Alice Leiser and Itha Margaret Twining; Grandchildren: Arthur (Ginger) Ceraldi, Brian Ceraldi, James (Allyson) Brower, Jeff Brower, Brandon and Brittany Earle, Elena, Annamarie and Jackson Higley. Great-Grandchildren: Mae and Greta Ceraldi, and Wyatt Brower; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, wives: Grayce (Kihlken) and Joan (Morse), son-in-law: Ray Liddle, sister: Jean Jess, brother: Russell Higley, brothers-in-law:Myron Leiser, Donald Twining and Walter Jess, sister-in-law: LaVinia Higley and infant son: David Alan Higley. A memorial service for LeRoy will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, 216 Washington St., Port Clinton, OH, with visitation one hour prior.
