William L. Dole

William Lee Dole, 88, of Lakeside, Ohio, and formerly of Port Clinton, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025, at Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton.

Born on December 5, 1936, in Bellevue, Ohio, he was the son of Orrin Dole Jr. and Kathryn (Phillabaum) Dole. On November 14, 1959, Bill married the love of his life, Patricia (Chaffin) Dole, who survives him. Their 65 years of marriage were filled with love, laughter, and deep devotion to family.

A hardworking and skilled man, Bill served as the service manager at Sam Amato’s Dealership in Port Clinton. He later worked as a machinist at Standard Products and then as a machine operator at Chrysler Plastics in Sandusky, where he remained until his retirement in 2001. Known for his mechanical expertise, Bill was often found helping friends and neighbors.

Bill also loved boating on Lake Erie, but his greatest joy came from time spent with his family—especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who lovingly called him "Poppy." He was a dedicated member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Port Clinton, where he served for many years on the maintenance committee.

In addition to his beloved wife, Patricia, Bill is survived by his children: Elaine Muncey, James (Susan) Dole, and Carol (Kip) Bidwell; grandchildren: Jamie Dole, Adam Dole, Elizabeth Dole, Amy (Michael) Hanna, Courtney (Michael) Kleindorfer, Kristin (Ben) Hartford, Kaylee (Josue) Lopez, and Kyle (Jordan) Bidwell; step-grandchildren: Raymond Muncey and Sarah (Joe) Bruscato; eleven great-grandchildren: two step-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Jean Bergman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son-in-law, Stephen Muncey; his sisters, Joan Bodjiak, Theda Michael, and Sandra Miller; infant niece, Lori Jo; infant nephew, Kevin; and brother-in-law, Thomas Bergman.

Visitation will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 Madison Street, Port Clinton, on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Jonathan Wight officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton.
