Thomas Leonard Parker

Thomas Tom Leonard Parker, age 82, of Maumee died Saturday, January 12, 2013 at St. Lukes Hospital from complications of open heart surgery. He was born, November 8, 1930, to Leonard and Lucy Kennedy Parker in Monclova Township. A 1949 graduate of Maumee High School, he served in the Army during the Korean War. After his discharge, Tom operated Tom Parker Garage in Maumee for almost forty years. He was known for friendly, honest service and made many friends. A past president of the Maumee Chamber of Commerce and member of the Uptown Business Association, Tom participated in many civic and social activities. He was a member of the Maumee Elks, the F.O.E. and the American Legion. He served as a volunteer on the Maumee Fire Division for 38 years attaining the rank of Chief Engineer. Boating was another important activity. Tom was a 30 year member of the Indian Hill Boat Club and past Commodore. He belonged to the Toledo Sail and Power Squadron and the IOBG. Tom cruised widely on the Great Lakes and beyond, accompanied by his wife Gloria and his sailor cat, Sinbad. Tom is survived by his wife, Gloria; children, Karen Dan Yount, Laura Doug Studyvin , Katherine Morgan and Thomas Parker II; grandchildren, Thomas Anna Parker III, Ronald Jessica Parker, Elizabeth Tony Sheppard, Laurel Patrick, Tonya Russell, Melissa Hensley and Jessica William Helms; and 14 great grandchildren, He is also survived by brother, Allen; and sister, Eileen Lubin and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Kenneth; sisters, Marian Parker and Lucille Billmaier. Friends and family may visit on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 from 3pm until 8pm at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St. Maumee, Ohio. The Maumee Firefighters Association will conduct services at 7pm. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at the funeral home at 11am. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Maumee Firefighters Association, Faith Community United Church of Christ or charity of the donors choice.
