Shirley Smith

December 22, 1934 — October 13, 2021

We lost our favorite gal, Shirley Smith, on October 13, 2021. Shirley was the first born of Lawrence and Irene Roan and loving wife to Marv, who left us in March 2016.“Shirls” as Marv liked to call her, graduated from Devilbis High School in 1952. She and Marv married in 1954 and started their family soon after. Shirley enjoyed being a working girl from the time she was very young. She started her career working at the local soda shop, as a teenager, and after graduation held various secretarial positions before eventually taking a job in the sales department of Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Hard work and dedication earned her the position of Executive Secretary, of which she was very proud, and where she spent the majority of her career. In her spare time Shirley mastered her craft of knitting and crocheting, creating pieces of delicate baby outfits and doll clothes for her daughters, colorful and detailed blankets and festive, family Christmas stockings, among many other keepsakes. She was an avid teapot collector who loved to proudly display her precious treasures, each with its own special story and touching memory. And, let's not forget one of her true, favorite pastimes, SHOPPING. Shirley was a master shopper! After retirement, Shirley became active in social clubs, participating in outings with “The Red Hat Ladies” and her weekly “Lunch Bunch” group. She enjoyed sharing special times with old and new friends alike. Her personality was somewhat quiet and reserved but she was the best of “listeners” and although she was small in stature, she could light up an entire room with her kind, infectious, sweet smile. It seems no matter what, she was always smiling! “Grandma Shirley” was what she was called by her grandkids and great grandkids and they adored her as much as she loved and cherished them. The kids were always so happy to be around and enjoy the company of Grandma Shirley. Shortly after Marv's death, Shirley moved to Albuquerque to live with her daughter and son in law, but Maumee was always home to her. She returned to Maumee in the fall of 2019 where she felt most comfortable being close to family, dear, old friends and familiar surroundings and that is where she spent her peaceful, final days. Mom and dad are together again, looking down on us with the angels in heaven. We love and miss you both. Shirls is survived by her daughters Sheila DeLelles (Greg), Sandra Garver (Pat), Shelly Johnson (RC) and son Keith Smith. Also surviving Shirley are her grandchildren Tony DeLelles, Nique Johnston (Matt), Dustin DeLelles, Josh Smith (Kristy), Jacob Smith (Megan), Jordin Post, Roan Williams and 8 great grandchildren. Also, brothers Larry (Sharon) Roan, Bill (Linda) Roan, Ron Roan, sister Vicki (Louis) Giddens and brother in law, Ron Smith as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her great grandson, Maguire Smith, parents Larry and Irene Roan, in laws Raymond and Mary Smith and loving husband, Marv Smith.
