Shirley Ann Matthews

Shirley Ann Matthews, age 83, of Sylvania, died November 16, 2018 at Ebeid Hospice Residence. She was born March 14, 1935 in Toledo to the late Michael and Elizabeth (Heiden) Tercek. A graduate of Good Shepherd grade school and Central Catholic High School, Shirley was employed as a secretary at Autolite prior to marriage and raising her family. She later worked for the Toledo/Lucas County Public Library, retiring in 1995 after 20 years. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing golf and Bridge, traveling to Europe, Thailand, Russia and to Florida on family vacations. Social and fun-loving, Shirley loved dinners with the Ladies and found her greatest joy in spending time with her family. Surviving are her children, Mark Matthews (Karen), Ann Zibbel (Fred), Michael Matthews (LeeAnne Holland), John Matthews, Terry Matthews (Holly Steward) and Tricia Heban (Joe); grandchildren, Kelly, Todd and Hayley Matthews, Melissa Wright (Adam), Andrew and Mackenzie Heban; great grandchildren, Cora and Hayden Wright; brother, Tom Tercek; and many wonderful friends. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bernie Matthews in 1982; and sister Neomi Flahiff. Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. Sunday in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) where a scripture service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Services will begin with prayers in the funeral home on Monday at 9:30 a.m. and proceed to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5373 Main Street, Sylvania, for 10:00 a.m. funeral Mass. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
