Robert J. Banghoff, Sr., 86, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2012. Bob Butch served on the Toledo Fire Department for 33 years retiring as a District Chief in 1985. He answered the call fighting the Tiedkes, Gallant Lumber, and Willis Day fires. He was also a member of the Zenobia Shrine, Arab Patrol, serving a two-year term as president; as well obtaining the distinction of a 33rd Degree Mason. Bob was a true Renaissance Man. During his high school years at Libbey he was a cheerleader with his best friends, Ray McNeil and Ray Remusat. He served his country as an Army radio operator during clean-up operations in the Pacific at the end of WWII. Bobs favorite pastimes included photography, dancing, fishing, golfing and camping, which he enjoyed throughout his entire life. He married the love of his life, Betty, in 1948 and after enjoying 54 years together, they are now reunited in the dance. Both were active at Collingwood United Methodist Church, and then St. Johns United Methodist after moving to Winterhaven, Florida in 1988. They supported their childrens activities by taking leadership roles in PTA, Methodist Youth Fellowship, and school fundraisers like candy sales and carnivals. In addition to working full-time as a fire-fighter, Bob was a professional finish carpenter at Cavalier Construction. He also completed many projects for his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty and sister Ginny. Bob is survived by his children, Rob, Barb Tony Lane, Becky, and Rick Jill, as well as his grandchildren, Jessica, Ian, John and Katie. Visitation will be at Walker Funeral Home, Sylvania Ave., from 2:00 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24th, with a Last Alarm service conducted at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at Maumee United Methodist Church 405 Sackett St. Maumee at 11:00 on Thursday with internment following at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
