Richard L. Shirey

SHIREY RICHARD L. Richard L. Shirey, 73, of Sylvania Twp., died Saturday, December 27, 2008, at The University of Toledo Medical Center after a brief illness. A life-long Toledo area resident, Richard was the son of Robert J. and Pauline Shirey. Richard served his country in The US Army from 1958-1960. Upon return to Toledo he was employed in banking for the former Lucas County Bank now Huntington for 12 years. Richard then went to work for General Motors at the Powertrain plant where he served in Quality Control and retired in 1993 after nearly 25 years. Richard was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Sylvania where he served as the organist for over 40 years. The widow of Ellen, Richard was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Shirey, Jr. Surviving are his children, Bruce Shirey, Cassandra Lulfs Bruce, and Richard Shirey, Jr. Gladys; grandchildren, Rebecca Lulfs, Rachel Lulfs and Kaden Shirey; and brothers sisters, Frank Shirey Myra, Jeannine Case Mike, Ralph Shirey Pat, Jamie Shirey Nancy, Jeannette Goins Wayne, Paul Shirey, Phillip Shirey Jean, Diana Conrad Larry and Donald Shirey Carolyn. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 30, from 2-8PM, at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. The funeral ceremony will take place on Wednesday, December 31, at 11AM, at First Baptist Church of Sylvania, 4827 Holland-Sylvania Rd. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Those planning a memorial contribution are asked to consider First Baptist Church of Sylvania.
