On Sunday, September 10, 2023, Rebecca (Becky) Jo (DeMars) Stamper, of Maumee, passed peacefully to her heavenly home at the age of 70. Becky was born on December 7, 1952, to Ted and Bertha DeMars. She was a 1971 graduate of Maumee High School.
Inspired as a child by patient stories told by her mother and oldest sister, both nurses, Becky always wanted to become a nurse. She graduated from Riverside School of Nursing in 1974 and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at the University of Toledo. For over 40 years, she led a passionate career in various positions employed at Riverside Hospital, Toledo Hospital, and St. Lukes Hospital. Her passion was guided by her life’s desire to help others.
Becky deeply treasured her family and friends. Her sense of humor and laughter was contagious and bright. That light, grounded in faith, shined through her adversity. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, crafting, wood working, and remodeling, and gifted those talents to others. Becky loved animals, but she wildly adored cats, nurturing many of her own through the years, and advocated for countless others. She was also a faithful serving member of Maumee United Methodist Church.
Becky is preceded in death by her parents, sister Peg (Darst) Grund, sister Carol DeMars, and brother in-law John Bradley. She is survived by her sister Ellen Bradley and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Maumee United Methodist Church, 405 Sackett Street, Maumee, on September 23, 9-11 am, with a memorial service at 11 am, immediately followed by a church luncheon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of NW Ohio, Ovarian Cancer Connection, Maumee United Methodist Church, and Alley Cat Allies.
