Reba D. Weber

Reba Weber, a resident of Sylvania, Ohio, left this earth at the age of 95, wrapped in the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to rejoin the love of her life Fred on February 5, 2013. She was born October 8, 1917 in Millville, New Jersey to Andrew Deon and Marie Valeria Deon, one of seven children. She attended R.D. Wood elementary school and Millville High School, where she was a cheer leader, graduating in 1934. Reba married the love of her life, Fred Weber, in 1939. They met at a dance and dated several years before getting married. Reba said; I married Freddy because he was so charming and such a good dancer. Prior to WW II, Reba worked at Kimble Glass, a former subsidiary of Owens-Illinois, Inc., in Vineland, New Jersey. Her husband was drafted in the Army Air Corps in early 1942. Reba held several Civil Service positions during WW II as she followed her husband from air base to air base throughout the United States. She worked at Seymour Johnson Field in Goldsboro, NC; Las Vegas Air Force Base renamed Nellis AFB in 1950 in Las Vegas, NV; and Kingman Army Air Field in Kingman, AZ. Her only child, son James Jim, was born in August 1946. Following the birth of her son, the new family settled in Bridgeton, New Jersey. When her son started school, Reba became very active in the PTA parents teachers assoc., the school lunch program and cub scouts serving as a Den Mother. In 1960, Reba returned to the working world, serving as Assistant Treasurer for a savings loan for 9 years and then a group insurance administrator at the Owens-Illinois Bridgeton Glass Container plant, where she retired in 1978. Following her retirement in 1978, she and her husband relocated from Bridgeton, New Jersey to Deltona, Florida to begin a new chapter in their lives. Reba became very active in the Deltona Womens Club, serving as assistant treasurer, and chairperson for several fund drives. Her favorite cause was Anchor House, a home for orphaned boys, located in Lakeland, Florida. She remained an active member of the Deltona Womens Club for 28 years. In her retirement, Reba and her husband Fred enjoyed traveling, visiting cities such as; New York, New Orleans, Miami, Las Vegas, Williamsburg, and Cancun, Mexico. Rebas husband, Fred, passed away in July, 2007. They were married 68 years. Following the death of her husband, Rebas son relocated her to Ohio where she became a resident of Sylvania and Kingston Residence. She made many new friends at Kingston and was an avid Pinochle player. She loved going with her son to the Toledo Metroparks, Toledo Botanical Gardens, the Wildwood Preserve Manor House, drives in the country and visiting the quaint little towns and villages in northwestern Ohio and south eastern Michigan. She also enjoyed visits with her granddaughter and great grandson who live in Sylvania and her grandson and wife and two great granddaughters, who live in Columbus. Reba loved the big band music of the 1930s and 1940s. Some of her favorite big band leaders included Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Count Basie, the Dorsey brothers and Harry James. Her favorite singer was Frank Sinatra. Her favorite big band dance number was the Benny Goodman version of Lets Dance. Reba and Fred spent many hours dancing the night away at Atlantic Citys Steel Pier to the music of the big bands. Reba and her husband were also NASCAR fans. Her favorite driver was Jeff Gordon. Reba is survived by her son Jim,: granddaughter, Debby Weber-Shaw; grandson, Jimy Kelly Weber; great grandson, Andrew Shaw and great-granddaughters, Sydney and Zoe Weber and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to visit from 9 a.m. until the funeral mass 10 a.m. on Saturday, in St. Josephs Catholic Church, Sylvania. Monsignor Dennis M. Metzger will officiate.
