Raquel Rita “Rocky” Mendieta, 80, of Perrysburg, OH died Thursday, December 27, 2012 in Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. She was born in Toledo on September 21, 1932. She married Antonio “Tony” Mendieta in Bowling Green, OH on December 23, 1950. Rocky was a 1948 graduate of Waite High School and continued her education at Owens Community College later working as a preschool teacher with Head Start for over 10 years. The popular local “Mama Mendieta’s Salsa” was named for her from a recipe passed down from her father. She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Perrysburg. She is survived by her husband, Antonio; nine children, Stella M. (Don) Sekulski of Toledo, Robert Mendieta of Waterford, MI, Tony J. (Tina) Mendieta of Colorado Springs, CO, Becky H. (Fred) Ramirez of Perrysburg, Monica Mendieta of Houston, TX, Christopher R. Mendieta of Perrysburg, Melinda Mendieta of Toledo, Patricia S. (Robert) Ray of Rochester, NYand Jessica Mendieta of Hollywood, CA; fifteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Laura (Lupe) Alverez and Frances Hilt both of Toledo. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Thelma (Berry) Lopez, sister, Pilar Georgeoff and brother, Sabino Lopez. Friends will be received from 2 – 7 P.M. on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 in the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St., Perrysburg, OH (419-874-3133) where funeral services will be held at 7 P.M. Burial will be private.
