Philip Duane Davis, beloved Papa, age 72, of Toledo, passed away on Monday, November 29, 2021. He was born on November 25, 1949, in Toledo to Leslie and Norma (Small) Davis. Phil was a member of the Local 8 IBEW as a Journeyman Wireman for over 42 years. He was active in teaching apprenticeship classes at the JATC and sharing his skills and knowledge with members. He was a talented welder and able to fix almost anything he came across. In addition to becoming a Journeyman, Phil served in the U.S. Navy. He married his beloved wife, Kristina Porter, and together they celebrated 45 years of marriage. Phil’s most cherished title of all was being “Papa” to his beautiful daughters and granddaughter. He was a kind, generous, and thoughtful man who always put his family first. He enjoyed grilling and smoking meat, reading, and riding motorcycles. He was a lifelong singer and enjoyed his time in the Wesleyan Chorus at Monroe Street Church and in the Clarence Smith Community Chorus. Friends have said of him, “There’s not a harder worker,” and that he enjoyed life. He also enjoyed caring for the garden and was known for being the guy you could count on. His unconditional love will be forever missed. Phil is survived by his wife, Kristina Davis; children, Melissa Davis, Diana (Bradly) Mathias; granddaughter, Trudy Belle Mathias; sister, Leslee J. Demmons; aunt, June (Small) Swick; niece, Anita L. Newman; nephew, Matthew Keel; great-nephew, Josh Newman; and countless extended family members and friends. Friends are invited to gather to celebrate Phil and share memories and stories with his family on Saturday, December 4, 2021, from 2-8 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, OH (419-841-2422). A celebration of life will take place at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Monroe Street United Methodist Church, 3613 Monroe Street, Toledo, Ohio 43606, where the family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Monroe Street Neighborhood Center - Bluff Street Village, 3613 Monroe Street, Toledo, OH 43606 (https://bluffstreetvillage.org/donate/), or to The University Church Food Pantry, 4747 Hill Avenue, Toledo, OH 43615 (https://www.theuniversitychurchtoledo.org/supporting-the-university-church/). These two efforts create housing and feed hungry people in Toledo. Phil was a big supporter of these efforts up until the very end.
