Patty Patricia Moorman Atkinson, age 93, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2008, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. She was born on March 17, 1915, St. Patricks Day, in Indianapolis, IN to Jesse Buchanan and Mabel Null Moorman both Indiana natives. Patty spent most of her life in Indianapolis, was a member of Crooked Creek Baptist Church and attended Crooked Creek Elementary School. She graduated from Shortridge High School and Ball State University. For a few years she returned to Crooked Creek as a teacher. In 1938, she married Robert Prescott Atkinson and they had 66 wonderful married years together. Bob and Patty raised twin sons, Don and Doug in Indianapolis. Patty loved to play piano, read, garden, knit, and play bridge. She was the keeper of family history, stories, and photo albums, passing on to her children and grandchildren a love of family and interest in heritage. In 1980, Patty and Bob moved to Aiken, SC so that Bob Papa could pursue his life long hobby of glider flying and to be closer to son, Don and his family. They were members of St. Johns United Methodist Church. Patty was a member of Newcomers, Gem Lakes Organization of Women and Town and Country Club. Patty moved to Toledo in 2006 where she lived at Oakleaf Village and made many wonderful friends. Patty is survived by her sons, Donald Robert Sally of Sylvania, OH and Douglas Bruce of Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren, Christopher D. Moira Atkinson of Mt. Zion, IL, Dr. Suzanne M. Atkinson of Pittsburgh, PA, Kristine A. Robert Wescott of Durham, NC and Kathleen J. Atkinson of Sylvania, OH; great-grandchildren, Maxwell Christopher and Samuel Prescott Atkinson both of Mt. Zion, IL and Eloise Wescott of Durham, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers, Jesse B. Moorman II and Allen Webb Moorman. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM at Epworth United Methodist Church, 3077 Valleyview Dr., Toledo, OH 43615. A family graveside celebration of life will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis, IN. Memorial contributions in Pattys name may be made to Epworth United Methodist Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd. Perrysburg, OH 43551.
