Norma E. Ethington passed away quietly and peacefully in Toledo on November 28, 2016 at the age of 100. She was a kind, considerate and loving wife and mother. She was born Norma E. Ashman on October 12, 1916. After graduating from DeVilbiss High School, Class of 1934, she began a secretarial career, first at Tiedkte’s department store and then at Owens-Illinois. Meeting the love of her life, Charles A. Ethington, they married in 1947 and began a life together that included lots of love and laughter. She knew Dad was the one when just after meeting, she loaned him the keys to her new Studebaker so he could get back to Camp Perry on time. He returned the keys and the rest is his and her love story. After Dad died in 1983, Mom continued to live in the house where she raised her family until June of this year. She was a strong and independent woman and was loved very much. She had a blast at her 100th birthday party and was overwhelmed by all those who attended. Norma leaves her children,Tom (Bev) Ethington of Toledo, Carol (Jim) Zablocki of Warner, NH, Mary Ellen (Janis) Briga of Marlborough, CT and Linda (Mark) Slusher of Erie, MI; along with 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Minnie Ashman; husband, Charles; sister, Alvina Lundquist; and granddaughter, Lija Briga. Visitation will be Friday, December 2, 2016 in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Pete Bowmer will preside with interment to follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
