Mary Cathy Salzman

Cathy Salzman 1948 - 2008 Mary Catherine Terrill Salzman, Cathy, 59, died on Friday, June 13th, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, after a long bout with cancer. Cathy was born Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1948, to Frank and Julia Fiscina in Hornell, New York, where she grew up. After graduating from Hornell High School in 1966, she attended Rosary Hill College in Buffalo, New York, and graduated in 1970 with a major in history. She then moved to the Washington DC area following graduation to pursue her career in teaching. Her first job was teaching history at Thomas Johnson Junior High School in Lanham, Maryland. On Valentines Day, 1974, she married Delbert R. Terrill Jr., a 1970 Air Force Academy graduate. In 1976, she was selected to teach at the newly established magnet school, Eleanor Roosevelt High School, in Greenbelt, Maryland. With the birth of her first child, Dax, in 1977, she took a leave from teaching to raise her family. In 1978, she moved her family to Vienna, Virginia and in 1981, gave birth to a daughter, Ashley, and in 1983, a second daughter, Lauren. She returned to teaching in 1993, at Wolftrap Elementary School, in Vienna, Virginia, to teach the fourth grade. In 1999, she accepted a position at Langley High School, while working towards her Masters Degree in Special Education, which she obtained in 2002. Throughout her teaching career she was recognized for her innovation in the classroom and the respect and love she received from her many students. She met her second husband, Robert Salzman, in 1997. Marriage followed in 2003, after a 3 year engagement. In that same year, she moved to Toledo, Ohio, where she lived until her death. She is survived by her husband, Robert Salzman, MD; son Delbert Terrill III, Dax; daughters, Ashley Terrill and Lauren Terrill; sister Terry McCarroll and her husband Ed; brother, Sal Fiscina and his wife JoAnn; nieces, Christine Beed, Judy Galeano, and Lynne Englert; nephews, Stephen McCarroll, Rick Fiscina; and former husband, Delbert Terrill Jr. Friends may visit Friday, June 20, from 5-9 pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Avenue. Funeral services will be held at Corpus Christi University Parish, 2955 Dorr Street, on Saturday, June 21 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her honor to Corpus Christi University Parish, Hospice of Northwest Ohio and The American Cancer Society.
