Marie K. Florez

Marie K. Florez, age 101, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2017 at The Glendale Assisted Living. The daughter of Daniel and Mary McPherson, she was born May 25, 1916 in French Portage, Ontario Canada as a member of the Chippewa Indian tribe. She moved to Toledo in 1946 in search of work and found a position with Jeep in 1952. She worked for Jeep for 24 years, retiring in 1976. She married Frank Florez on March 28, 1986. After they retired, Frank and Marie traveled from reservation to reservation selling Mexican food at the Pow wows. Marie was a very talented artist making many ceramic pieces and oil paintings. She was a member of Iglesia Hispana Evangelica Church and the Frank Troy Senior Center. She enjoyed swimming, playing the Hawaiian guitar, hula dancing and playing bingo. She is survived by her husband, Frank; niece, Marina McDonald from Winnapeg, Canada; 5 great nieces and nephews; 11 great great nieces and nephews; cousins, Margaret Bouchie and Josie Sandy. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Peter, Joseph, Floyd and Andy McPherson; sister, Madeleine; cousin, Wanda Busey. Friends may visit the family on Sunday from 3-7 PM at Walker Funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey rd). Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM with Pastor Moses Rodriguez officiating at Iglesia Hispana Evangelica 1360 Conant St. Maumee, OH 43537 (in the complex of Calvary Church Auditorium 3).
