Kenneth L. Deacon Cappelletty

July 23, 1940 — January 11, 2013

Ken Cappelletty, 72, the founder and co-owner of Ken’s Flower Shops and Deacon at St. Rose Catholic Church in Perrysburg, passed away after a prolonged illness at Hospice of Northwest Ohio on January 11, 2013 with his family by his side. A pillar of Toledo’s business community and an active and devoted member of his parish, Ken was known for his kindness, fairness and sense of justice, not to mention his love of laughter and a good story. Born in 1940 in Toledo, Ohio to Ernest and Genevieve Cappelletty, Ken was part of the first graduating class at St. Francis de Sales High School in 1958 and later attended the University Of Toledo. Ken opened Ken’s Flower Shop on Dorr Street in 1965, the first of what would eventually be six stores in the greater Toledo area, including a flagship store in Perrysburg. Along with business partner and good friend Fred Moor, Ken, a true entrepreneur, also tried his hand in both the restaurant and furniture businesses. Ken was ordained a Deacon in 1990 and practiced his ministry at St. Rose Catholic Church in Perrysburg. Deeply spiritual, Ken was involved in a number of Catholic and interfaith organizations, including the Knights Of Columbus, the Pastoral Council of St. Rose, the St. Rose St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Lutheran-Catholic Covenant Commission, the Catholic/Muslim Interfaith Collaborative, the prison ministry Compassion, and the St. Rose Peace and Justice Committee, which he founded. Ken’s emphasis was on helping those less fortunate and often preached on issues of equality and social justice. Ken enjoyed meeting with and counseling engaged couples and married sons Mark and David to their respective wives, Jennifer and Kelly. Ken married Catherine Link in October 1967 at Our Lady Of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and the two recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. He is survived by Cathy and sons Mark (Jennifer) and David (Kelly), grandchildren Ella and Sophia, and siblings Rich, Joyce, Terry and Chris. Friends will be received 2:00-9:00 PM on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St., Perrysburg, OH (419)-874-3133 where a vigil service will be at 7:00 pm. Prayers will be recited at 9:30 AM in the funeral home on Thursday, January 17, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM at St. Rose Catholic Church, 215 East Front St., in Perrysburg with burial at Fort Meigs Union Cemetery. The family would like to thank the caring staff of Swan Creek Retirement Village and Hospice Of Northwest Ohio. Those planning an expression of sympathy in Ken’s name are asked to consider the St. Rose St. Vincent de Paul Society.
