Kathy Mccarthy

Kathleen “Kathy” F. McCarthy, 74, of Toledo, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 12, 2023. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on June 19, 1948, to Elizabeth (Kopp) and Joseph Koluch.

In 1988, Kathy met Daniel J. McCarthy at a local club and restaurant. Kathy and Dan were married on March 5, 1993. Over their 30 years together, they enjoyed many adventures abroad. Their favorite trips included a trip to Germany to visit Dan’s son while he was serving in the military, a riverboat cruise on the Danube River where they stopped in 8 different countries, and a tour of Italy. They also enjoyed many winter trips to Florida and Arizona, and summer trips to California, Wisconsin, and North Dakota. They enjoyed gardening together, and lively card games, especially Hand and Foot, with beloved friends and family members.

Kathy graduated Magna Cum Laude from the nursing program at Owens Community College in 1976. She then went on to complete the CRNA program at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor. She was dedicated to her career as a nurse anesthetist for many years. Her favorite hobby was counted cross stitching, and would often travel with her girlfriends to weekend cross stitch events, which she always looked forward to. Kathy was also an avid reader. But most of all, she loved Jesus and devoted her life to honoring the Lord in everything she did.

A beloved wife, sister, aunt, and friend, Kathy will be missed by many. She is survived by her husband, Daniel McCarthy, brothers Terry (Carol) Koluch and Joseph (Linda) Koluch, sister-in-law Kim (Kevin) Koluch, stepsons Matthew (Lulu Stewart) McCarthy and Michael (Kristin) McCarthy, step grandsons Riley and Kyle McCarthy, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Kathy was preceded in death by her son, David Tailford, parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Koluch, and brother, Kevin Koluch.

Friends will be received at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., Toledo, OH 43623 (419-841-2422) on Friday, June 23, 2023 from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM and on Saturday, June 24, 2023 from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM. A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 11:00 AM Walker Funeral Home, led by Pastor Nate Elarton. A luncheon will follow at Compelled Church, 8970 Jackman Ave., Temperance, MI 48182.

Memorial donations in Kathy’s name may be made to Adult & Teen Challenge. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in honor of Kathy to this organization, which was near and dear to Kathy’s heart as they helped her with her son. Adult & Teen Challenge is an excellent organization which helps minister to people struggling with addiction.
