Karen E. Cordrey

Karen Elizabeth Cordrey age 78 passed away peacefully in Maumee on June 17, 2024. Karen was born in Napoleon, Ohio to Freeman and Lavina (Helberg) Moose on May 20, 1946. She was a 1964 graduate of Rogers High School.

Karen married Robert Cordrey in 1967 and eventually settled in Metamora, Ohio. She supported Robert in his business and was always his sounding board for new ideas. Karen was a driven, hard-working person with a big servant’s heart. She was a tireless advocate and trail-blazer for children with developmental disabilities, serving on boards and leadership roles with various organizations at the state and local level for nearly 40 years, including the Ohio Developmental Disabilities Planning Council, Ohio Association for Retarded Citizens, Autism Society of Ohio, Fulton County Board of DD, Triangular Processing, Fulton County ARC, Autism Society of NW Ohio (1983 Parents of the Year, 1993 Advocate of the Year), Northwest Ohio SERRC Center Parent Council (1984 Parent Special Education Award), Special Education Lay Advocates of NW Ohio. She believed in dignity for children with special needs. All are assets and productive contributors to their communities with the right education, services and job opportunities.

Through her service, positive outlook, and sparkling personality Karen was a role model for her family. She loved to host family dinners, work on her home, spend time at Bird Lake, lunch with friends and family, and shop. She will be truly missed.

Karen is survived by her daughter Jennifer (Mark) Puls; grandchildren, Jacob and Kendall; sister, Evon (Kenneth) Rufenacht of Archbold; sister-in-law, Barbara (Cordrey) Rock of Star, ID; brothers-in-law, Jim Brown of Delta, Jack (Sharon) Schweibold of Whitestown, IN, David (Mindy) Cordrey of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Chance, brothers Leslie and Burdell Moose; and sister Beverly Brown.

Friends and family are invited to visit on Friday, June 21, 2024 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm in the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St, Maumee, OH 43537. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 11:00 am at Amboy Township Cemetery, 15140 OH-64, Metamora, OH 43540 with a luncheon to follow.
