Jane V. Tracy

September 23, 1914 — June 13, 2014

Jane Vera Tracy, 99, of Toledo, passed away Friday, June 13, 2014. She was born September 23, 1914 to John Burgin and Ida Ebert. Jane graduated from Scott High School and Stautzenberger Business College. Growing up she enjoyed skiing, swimming, baseball (in Ottawa Park) and reading and was in the life-guard club at Y. Her family did a lot of swimming, picnics, and outdoor activities at area locations including Lakeside, Catawba Island and Cedar Point. Jane met her future husband, Parker, at a dance on a double date. The two were married August 12, 1939 at Redeemer Lutheran Church and would have celebrated 75 years of marriage this summer. They did many things together, including serving in the Civil Air Patrol before Parker joined the Navy. They lived in a number of places, including Washington DC, Florida and several places in California and after his service has ended, the couple moved back to Toledo. There they operated a sea plane base on Maumee Bay for a time, giving airplane rides over the area. They also built their own house on Whiteford Road, which took 2 years, but after finishing in 1955 they were able to stay there nearly 60 years. They spent many summers at their vacation home in Ontario where they enjoyed nature, being outdoors, fishing, golfing and sailing. Jane worked for Pitney-Bowes for many years before retiring at age 62. Then they began a life of traveling, golfing, and enjoying family. Jane was devoted to Parker and the two spent hours together gardening and reading. Jane was also in the pinochle club for many years. Jane was preceded in death by her three siblings, Chester Burgin, Bernice Byram and John Burgin. She is survived by her husband, Parker, 99; their daughter, Mary Ann Jenkins (Steve); a nephew, Chuck; four nieces, Jane, Barb, Ann and Sally; three grandchildren, Alison (Sean), Keith (Heather), and Tracy (Seth); and seven great-grandchildren, Grace, Parker, Julia, Ellis, Macy, Nora, and Carter. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 21, 2014 in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.), where friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be private. Memorials are suggested to the Lutheran Home Society, 2021 N McCord Rd, Toledo, OH 43615. Online condolences can be expressed at walkerfuneralhomes.com.
