After accepting blindness due to macular degeneration over the past ten years and fighting a courageous battle these past twenty-one months with illness from asbestosis, Jim Herman passed away November 12, 2015 at Sunset Village in Sylvania. He had turned 80 on November 11th. Jim was born in Genoa, OH to Frank and Helen Herman. After graduating from high school he spent forty-three years dedicated to the steel construction business in Ohio and Michigan. Jim enjoyed coaching little league baseball teams and watching the kids that he coached grow into manhood. He married Deanna McFarland in 1981 and they spent thirty-four years together golfing, touring over thirty countries, and enjoying many cruises. Jim is survived by his wife, Deanna; sister, Rosemary Hayward of Los Angeles, CA; children, Jeffrey of Findlay, OH, Kim (Jay) Wilson of Toledo, Douglas of Oregon, OH, and Kim (Rick) Wittmer of Valparaiso, IN; sixteen grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00pm on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Sylvania United Church of Christ, 7240 Erie St. Sylvania, followed by memorial service at 3:00pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd. Perrysburg, OH 43551. The Walker Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
