James “Jim” Martin Stein, age 80, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on April 16, 2024. Born on April 22, 1943, in Toledo, he was a lifelong resident.
Jim was the son of the late Martin and Verna Stein. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Kathryn “Kathy” Kuhnle. They shared 59 years of marriage filled with love and laughter. Jim is survived by his wife Kathy, his sons Marty and Roger Stein, his daughter Jeannette Stein (John Russell); grandchildren, Blake Whitmore (Jake Palmer), Bailey Whitmore, Grant Will, and Amanda Stein.
Jim proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps. This commitment reflected his deep sense of duty and patriotism. Following his military service, he was a respected supervisor known for his work ethic and integrity. He retired from Dana/Eaton Corporation and Toth Industries.
Jim had a vibrant personality, characterized by his sense of humor and love for music. He was also a regular on the golf course, enjoyed playing cards and chess, and stayed active with weight lifting. He was an avid sports fan who did not miss any chance to cheer on the Wolverines.
Throughout his life, Jim was generous with his time and skills. He was driven to give back to others. As a devoted donor to the Red Cross, he contributed over 60 gallons of blood and plasma. Jim served as a BSA Leader for Pack 113 at Greenwood Elementary, served Troop 70 and was Advancement Chairman for the Commodore Perry District. He also volunteered as chauffeur and often entertainer for special education students at Lagrange Elementary. His contributions to the well-being of others will be remembered by many.
Above all, Jim was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend who was always there for others. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth and generosity. He will be greatly missed.
Family and friends may visit April 19, 2024, from 2-8 pm at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. The Funeral Service for Jim will be Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 9 am in the funeral home. Jim will be laid to rest in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
