Frederick S. Green, age 92, of Toledo died on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at Sunset House under the care of Ashanti Hospice. A Toledo resident since 1959, Fred retired as Production Manager of General Mills, Toledo, after being employed there for 23 years. Fred was a 4 year veteran of World War II, drafted as a Private. By the end of the war, he had risen to the rank of Captain. He served in the 96th Infantry Division in the invasions of Leyte and Okinawa, earning two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. He was especially proud of the Combat Infantry Badge. Fred was a member of the American Legion Post 135 in Toledo. A graduate of Bucknell University, Fred was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church. He previously belonged to the former Covenant Presbyterian Church of Toledo for 40 years. Marion, his wife of 68 years, survives him, as does his son, Richard Irmi Green of Monclova, OH; daughter, Nancy Green, of Big Pine Key, FL; granddaughters, Krista William Lasche, of Dallas, TX, and Julie Shaun Greer, of Indianapolis, IN; and three great grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday from 3-7:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. where funeral services will be at 11:00am on Saturday.
