Donald Robert Modrall, age 91, passed away Monday, January 7, 2019. The son of Robert and Mamie, he was born July 3, 1927 in Toledo. He was a graduate of Macomber High School. Don served his country in the U.S. Army with the 11th Airborne Division. He married Lynne J. Bennett on August 16, 1952. He started working at the age of 14 delivering newspapers for the Toledo Blade. For a short time he worked for the City of Toledo in the Parks Division and with Toledo Edison. He enjoyed a 44 year career with Ohio Bell. He was highly respected within Ohio Bell for his excellent work ethic and his meticulous attention to detail. Even in retirement he was called back to assist on difficult projects. Don was the go to guy to set up phone systems when sitting presidents visited the Toledo area and he received numerous presidential awards for his work. Traveling was a very important part of his life having visited every state except Alaska. He also treasured the annual trips to Tennessee and Cedar Point. He was a thrill seeker, riding roller coasters into his 70s, jumping out of planes in the Army, racing hydroplane boats and trimming 100 foot trees for his neighbors at the age of 85. Don never took shortcuts in life. He always found a way to provide for his family, especially in the tough times. He was a disciplinarian but a kind and loving father who instilled strong morals and principles in his childrens lives. He is survived by his children, Diane L. Roark, Gary R. Modrall, Brenda C. Strong, Terry L. Modrall; grandchildren, Corey, Warren Jennifer Roark, Donald Robert Boone, Melanie Laura Modrall, Danielle Strong, Patrick Modrall (Ferko); and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lynne J. Modrall; sisters, Margaret Wood, Esther Cloer; and brother, Lewis Modrall. Friends may visit the family on Sunday from 2-9 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd) where funeral services will be held Monday at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
