Dave Carter

Dave was known for his dedication to service, being a loyal friend, and his sense of humor. David Lee Carter, 55, of Toledo, Ohio, passed on September 1st, 2025.

Dave was born in Dayton, Ohio in 1970 to Dee and Kathy Carter, a Montgomery County Deputy Sheriff and a Nurse. The family moved to Vandalia, Ohio in 1978 where Dave grew up in a great community surrounded by friends, which he made easily. He would eventually graduate from Vandalia-Butler High School in 1989, the University of Toledo with a degree in Criminal Justice/Police Science in 1994 and a Master of Education in 1998. Dave loved helping others, which is why his life-long dedication to service in law enforcement was no surprise.

Rising through the ranks of the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office, Dave had a distinguished career and retired after 25 years at the rank of Detective Lieutenant. He was more than a dedicated public servant. Dave will always be remembered for investing his time generously in others. Friends and coworkers recall phone calls with Dave where he was always available with advice or a kind ear. He will be remembered and missed by many.

Dave was preceded in death by his mother and father, Kathy and Dee. He is survived by his wife, Rosa; children, Sam and David; brother, Dan (Jane); niece and nephew, Whitney and Dylan; extended family; and his “boys,” Teddy, Justice, Blue, and Scout.

A celebration of Dave’s life will be held on Saturday, September 6th, at the Walker Funeral Home, Sylvania Twp. at 5155 W Sylvania Ave, Toledo, OH 43623. Visiting hours are from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. with a service at 4 p.m.
