Daniel L Twiss, age 80, of Sylvania, OH, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2023. He was born on November 16, 1942 in Toledo, OH to Harold and Harriette Twiss. Dan was a 1961 graduate of Sylvania H.S. and married the love of his life Judy, in 1963.
Dan began his career in 1962 on the assembly line at the Toledo Jeep Assembly plant. From there he was elected as a Union Steward with the UAW Local 12 Jeep Unit, and then Committeeman at Large, Vice-Chairman and then Chairman of the Union. In 1989, he moved into the UAW/Chrysler Training Center as a Co-Administrator. Later, he became an International Representative for the UAW, retiring in 2008.
In 1969, Dan was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he proudly served during the Vietnam War as an Artillery Liaison and held the rank of Sergeant.
Dan’s favorite hobby was restoring classic cars. He enjoyed going to car shows and participating in many charities, including Wreaths Across America, Toys for Tots and Paws & Whiskers. He formed many cherished relationships thru the years and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Dan is survived by his nephews, Brent (Karie) Kutzly of Sylvania, and Dan (Heather) Twiss and Andrew (Bianca) Twiss of Florida; great-nieces, Krista (Abby), Katelyn, Makayla (Mark) and Melissa; great nephew, Wolf; great-great-nephews, Landon, Carson, Luca & Kai; and kitties, Mitz and Elsie. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Twiss, parents and siblings, Brenda Kutzly & James Twiss.
A Celebration of Dan’s Life will take place on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., Toledo, OH 43623 from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. with Military Honors at 5:45 pm. In lieu of flowers, tributes in Dan’s memory may be directed to Wreaths Across America Toledo Metro Area Chapter, Toys for Tots, or Paws & Whiskers Cat Shelter, 32 Hillwyck Dr., Toledo, OH 43615.
