Charles E. Guth

Charles E. Guth, 90, of Port Clinton, OH passed away Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky, OH. He was born on June 18, 1927 in Port Clinton, OH to Edward E.O. and Allie M. (Dangler) Guth. Charles graduated from Port Clinton High School in 1945. He then served in the U.S. Army during World War II and played in the military band which toured all over Europe. After his return from the service he earned his Bachelors Degree in Accounting from Bowling Green State University. On August 18, 1957 in Port Clinton, OH he married the love of his life, Darla J. Cover, and she survives. Charles started out working at the Erie-Army Depot in Port Clinton and then a long career with Port Clinton City Schools as the clerk/treasurer from 1967-1992. He was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Clinton where he was very active and a loyal witness to his faith. In addition to his loving wife of over 60 years, Darla, he is survived by his daughters, Hope L. (Greg) Heidenreich and Amy M. Guth-Goans, grandchildren, Lacy OLalde, Amanda Goans, Allison Ally Goans, and Austin Weglicki, step-grandchildren, Kiara, Kenny, and Kris Heidenreich, sister, Marjorie LeGore, and many nieces nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lucille Huston. Visitation for Charles will be on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 from 2-8 p.m. at the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, 216 Washington St., Port Clinton. Funeral services will be conducted by Reverend James Lehman 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church, 207 Adams St., Port Clinton with visitation one hour prior at the church. A light bereavement meal will be served following the service at the church and then a procession to Elliston Cemetery, Elliston, OH for interment. Memorial contributions in memory of Charles may be given to St. John Lutheran Church, Port Clinton or the Luther Home of Mercy, Williston, OH.
