Broce "Skip" W. Cope, 68, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, died Monday, September 28, 2020 at Mercy-St. Charles Hospital, Oregon, Ohio after a lingering illness. He was born in Bakersfield, CA on May 31, 1952, the son of Everett and Norma (Hines) Cope. He married Lera P. Preddy on June 4, 1983 and together they had twin sons, Curtis and Douglas. Skip was the Chief of Emergency Preparedness for the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station in Oak Harbor, retiring after 34 years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy as a nuclear engineer aboard the USS Lapon, a nuclear submarine stationed on the East coast for 8 years. During his retirement years, he enjoyed working in his yard, completing handyman projects around the house, woodworking and carving. He took pride in creating many different wood pieces for family and friends. Skip was an Eagle Scout and a Boy Scout leader for Troop #370 for many years; loving camping and outdoor activities. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren. Skip is survived by his wife, Lera; sons, Curtis (Hillary) Cope and Douglas (Audrey) Cope; grandchildren, Caden Cope and Lillian Cope; and sister, Velda (Kevin) Kirby. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett & Norma. There are no services scheduled at this time. The family suggests memorial donations be directed to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 3229 Burnet Ave. Cincinnati, OH 45229.
